Dr. Emily Hernandez is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with advanced training in family medicine, preconception and fertility, digestive health, hormone balancing, and chronic illness. She is passionate about helping individuals and families optimize their health through integrative, root-cause-focused care.
Dr. Hernandez began her medical career at a Lyme-literate clinic in San Diego treating complex chronic illness, which laid the foundation for her whole-body, systems-based approach to medicine. She received Lyme training through ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) and has since become a recognized speaker and educator in the field. She has presented a holistic approach to Lyme disease at the Scripps Integrative Medicine Conference, created a three-part educational series on Lyme, including pathophysiology, testing and diagnosis, and treatment approaches featured as a webinar series for practitioners, and was featured on Dr. Talks’ Lyme Summit discussing the connection between Lyme disease and the microbiome.
Her treatment philosophy for Lyme and complex chronic infections emphasizes the importance of immune regulation, inflammation control, detoxification support, microbiome balance, and hormone optimization—each as critical as addressing the bacterial load itself. Dr. Hernandez uses a combination of herbal protocols, nutritional supplementation, dietary changes, and individualized therapies to support patients through comprehensive treatment and long-term remission.
She later founded Wildcraft Medicine, a family practice in La Jolla, California, where she focused on supporting gut health, hormone regulation, and fertility. After successfully running and growing the practice, Dr. Hernandez sold Wildcraft Medicine and continues to expand her clinical work and professional collaborations.
She has a special interest in preconception care, helping individuals optimize their health before pregnancy to support the health of future generations. She believes proper digestion is central to overall wellness and works extensively with patients to heal gut-related disorders and imbalances.
Dr. Hernandez serves as a clinical consultant for Bio-Botanical Research, where she educates practitioners on microbiome-focused therapies and speaks at national conferences. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals on topics including the microbiome and women’s health.
Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Hernandez is an alumna of Syracuse University and received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She became a doctor at the age of 26 and remains deeply committed to empowering patients through education, personalized care, and functional medicine.
When she is not seeing patients or educating, Dr. Hernandez can be found spending time with her husband and two young children. She loves being out in nature and is often outside walking her dog, playing pickleball, or spending quality outdoor time with her children.
